Jamie, Claire, Brianna, and the Beardsley twins head out on a hunt in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 81

It’s time for a hunt, although not a traditional hunt, in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 81. This is also time to learn more about the Beardsley twins and for Brianna to get away from the Ridge for a while.

Everything starts with Peter Bewlie showing up with his Cherokee brother-in-law. There has been a “ghost bear” spotted around the village. The Cherokee warriors have tried to take the bear down, but they need the help of Jamie. After all, he is known as “Bear Killer.”

They also need Claire’s help. With Claire going off on the hunt, Brianna also heads out with her parents. The Beardsley twins join them since they are both good hunters, Josiah especially.

This isn’t a chapter that is used in the series. There will have been a few reasons for this, but the biggest is that it’s more of a side story. It wasn’t needed overall when it comes to the rest of the book, and the show writers had decided to bring some of the storylines from A Breath of Snow and Ashes forward instead of doing everything from The Fiery Cross.

I don’t really notice that much foreshadowing either. The conversations are more about getting a bit of backstory about the Beardsley twins while also getting a sense of Brianna’s thoughts about Roger. We could get that on the show through other means.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 81.
