Just the Outlander chapter

Here we are at the Ridge. Life is continuing as normal, and we get to see how the Bugs integrate into the family. They are just like family to the Frasers, and it will certainly make things in later books all the harder to bear.

However, the focus is on delivering the surveys. Jamie says that Fergus is going to do it, but Roger offers instead. Roger can leave sooner, and it’s clear that he wants to find a place on the Ridge. Without his voice, he’s lost the one thing that he could do for the family. He’s not a man for the 18th century, so he needs to figure out something else.

I wish we could have some time in Roger’s head at this point. I’d love to know his thoughts as he figured out what to do on the Ridge. I know we get more chapters with him later on, but I’d have liked to delve into his head at this particular point.

Brianna has a dream about Roger leaving, and then she wakes. Roger is already gone. In her dream, Bree knows that while she doesn’t want Roger to leave, she wants him to go at the same time. The unspoken things in Roger’s mind play on her. She can sense them, and it’s causing tension between them.

However, that doesn’t stop it hurting when she realizes that Roger has left potentially without saying goodbye. She thinks she can remember a kiss, but then she realizes that she’s not sure if it even happened. We get this sense of sadness as we get this sense of how far apart the two have grown.
