Roger agrees to delivering the surveys in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 80

Now that the surveys are done, someone needs to deliver them to the authorities. Jamie announces that it will be Fergus, but Roger offers to do it instead in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 80.

This is one of those chapters that focuses on Roger’s recovery. It’s still not from his point of view, but we get a look at life for him on the Ridge. He’s included in this chapter, with Claire and Brianna both thinking about him.

Roger is trying to be useful on the Ridge. Things have changed considerably for him since Alamance, and it’s clear that he needs to find something to do. Of course, without hearing things going through his head, we don’t know just how dark his thoughts can get.

Brianna is worried, though. She and Roger are growing further and further apart.

The chapter wasn’t really used in the series. Instead, Roger and Young Ian headed out to survey the last on Outlander Season 5. I loved the way the series adapted all this, and I’ll get to my thoughts in the adaptation section.

There is a small amount of foreshadowing, though. It’s clear that there are problems for Roger, that he needs to find his place. It all foreshadows things that are about to happen.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 80.
