Brianna finds a mess that Jemmy has left in Claire’s surgery in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 78

We spend some time with Brianna and Claire in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 78. Life is getting back to some sort of normal after everything with the Regulators.

This chapter is on the quiet side. There’s a great chance for Claire and Brianna to talk. More importantly, we see Brianna turning to her mother for something akin to advice. Brianna is clearly trying to find a place in the 18th century.

There’s also a connection back to Drums of Autumn. Claire’s pouch from Nayawenne is one of the items that Jemmy has damaged while in Claire’s surgery. Claire finally figures out what was inside it, something she’d always wondered.

The chapter wasn’t really used in the series. There is one element that was, but the TV series kept things contained. This chapter foreshadows something that’s to come about gemstones and time travel.

We also got some of Claire and Brianna’s discussion about finding a place in the series. I loved Brianna turning to her mom while she was finding a place in the past, and I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.
