When a package arrives, it creates excitement for everyone at the Big House in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 77. What could be in the package?

I love this chapter for the simplicity in it. The chapter simply reminds us of the lack of entertainment in the day. It’s easy to forget that. We have so much going on now in the world with technology that we can forget people once had to find other ways to make entertainment for themselves.

Parcels and letters didn’t arrive that often. There was a chance to guess what could be in it, especially when those packages weren’t expected. Everyone hopes for something, but it can only be one thing.

In the end, it’s a gift for Jamie. We’re reminded of a very particular friendship in the series.

There is an element of foreshadowing too. It’s not all that clear, but there’s just a mention that puts something in our minds ready for the next few books in the series.

As for the series, the chapter wasn’t used. Instead, Lord John Grey gives Brianna a gift in the show, and this is important within itself. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.
