Just the Outlander chapter

We start with Claire and Jamie in Jamie’s study. Jamie is looking at the accounts, and things aren’t looking great. They need to find money, and that leads to Jamie questioning about selling some of Claire’s honey and candles.

Claire has some to spare, but she wants to keep as much as possible for her own needs. She’s also trying to make soap that won’t damage the hands, knowing this soap will sell for a lot. She just needs to get Jamie to be patient enough for the soap to sell.

Mr. Wemyss comes in with news that he may have found a marriage match for Lizzie. Claire can see why this marriage is on the cards. Lizzie comes with a good dowry and land promises thanks to Jamie’s promises and being the only heir to her father’s land. Of course she’s seen as a good match for men of the time.

However, Wemyss points out that his daughter doesn’t really know her mind. This is where I spot the foreshadowing and I’ll get into that.

With that done, the focus turns back onto the accounts. Claire and Jamie both consider the gems. While they would take longer to sell, they would fetch a good price. However, Claire knows they need to keep the gems in case they need to travel through the stones, and that’s something that Jamie is considering too.

Will Roger leave to go to his own time? Would he leave Brianna? Claire is worried that might happen considering how much they’re pulling apart because of Roger’s mental state after the hanging.

Jamie also thinks that Roger’s time might have something to help Roger speak again. He’s still struggling. Claire considers speech therapy and some other options, but there are no guarantees. She also knows that Roger would need to be willing to do the work, and she’s not so sure he will.

The chapter ends with Brianna thinking about a dream and then waking. She thinks about how Roger went out and just left her behind in the cold.
