Claire treats her last patient at Alamance in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 72

We end the section of The Fiery Cross at Alamance with one final patient. Claire has to treat someone injured by his own side in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 72.

During the previous chapter, Claire had to leave Brianna with Roger to treat a patient. We find out that the patient is Isaiah Morton, who we haven’t heard of since earlier in the novel. The last we heard of him, he’d ridden off with Alicia Brown.

Well, as you’d expect, the Browns didn’t take too kindly to that. They found the perfect opportunity to attempt to kill him.

The chapter isn’t all about Isaiah, though. Claire thinks about Roger and how he doesn’t quite have the fight spirit. She’s concerned about him.

This is a chapter that was sort of used in the series. We definitely got Morton’s part, but the thoughts about Roger were done differently. Claire’s thoughts are internal in the chapter, and that wouldn’t work on the TV show. I’ll get to my thoughts on the adaptation, and why I thoroughly enjoyed the way the show handled it.

As for foreshadowing, I don’t notice all that much. This is about wrapping up Alamance, although there is a little that makes it clear some storylines aren’t quite over.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 72.
