Brianna is left alone with her injured husband in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 71

Brianna is left to comfort Roger after everything that’s happened to him in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 71. She feels completely out of her depth, but she manages it.

We’re picking up with the immediate aftermath of Roger being hanged. He’s now with his family, back at their encampment. However, he’s not out of the woods yet. Claire is looking after him, but she’s called out to help with another medical need.

Brianna ends up being left with Roger. All she can really do is hold his hand and talk to him, but it’s not easy for her. She’s out of her depth, terrified that she might end up doing something wrong that kills him.

We get a little more about Brianna’s personality and insecurities in this chapter. It’s something we don’t get all that often in the Outlander books, so I certainly appreciated it. However, it wasn’t a chapter used in the show. It wasn’t necessary, and I’ll get to why I think that in the adaptation section.

I don’t notice all that much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. I’ll get to my thoughts in that section of the post.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 71.
