Just the Outlander chapter

Roger wakes, and he’s not quite sure where he is or what’s happened. He knows he’s in pain, and he’s struggling with his breathing. He wants to gasp air in, but he can’t. Yet, he’s managing to breathe somehow.

We know how it’s all possible. We know what’s happened to Roger to make sure air would get to his lungs, but he is only just waking up and learning about everything that has happened.

He thinks he’s drowned, but he later realizes that’s not the case at all. However, there is a blackness and a heaviness within.

When he sees someone with red hair looking over him, Roger immediately thinks of Brianna. It showcases the love between them. When coming back from being close to being dead, it’s Bree who Roger thinks of, and I love it.

It’s Jamie, though. That doesn’t take away from the positive feelings that Roger has when he thought it was Brianna. He still feels a sense of calmness and safety. That’s important, too. He may have had some negative experiences with Jamie considering everything that happened in Drums of Autumn, but their relationship has mended along the way. Roger now looks up to his father-in-law and even trusts him.

Jamie knows the right words to say to help Roger as he tries to figure out what’s going on. “You are alive. You are whole. All is well.”

They’re powerful words in the moment. They’re calming words in the moment. All is well now that they’ve got to Roger.
