Jamie, Brianna, and Claire find Roger in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 69

We were left with a tiny bit of hope in the previous chapter. Outlander Book 5, Chapter 69 sees that tiny bit of hope pays off.

Claire, Jamie, and Brianna find where Roger is hanging in this chapter. Naturally, it’s a shocking and terrifying sight. At first glance, it looks like Roger is dead. However, Jamie and Claire realize that isn’t the case at all.

We only get this chapter from Claire’s point of view, but she also knows Jamie well enough to know that he knows Roger isn’t dead when pulling him down from the tree. We get a sense of how that was possible. It just happened to be a case of events that all worked together to help save Roger’s life.

It’s still a scary chapter, though. We still don’t get the confirmation that Roger will make it through, but it continues a sense of hope that he will live. What could happen after that? There are things that happen during the chapter that hint at a few things. It’s not really foreshadowing, but plot development.

Of course, the chapter was partly used in the series. There was no way of overlooking this particular chapter. I’ll get to my thoughts on the way the show handled it in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 69.
