Roger has a fight for his life on his hands in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 68

We get to a very difficult chapter of The Fiery Cross. Roger wakes after being knocked out only to find that his life is on the line. There may be no saving him in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 68.

This is the chapter that sees Roger hanged as a Regulator. Of course, he’s not a Regulator. We know that, the people turning him over know that, but none of that matters. It’s all about what Governor Tryon is being led to believe.

One thing this chapter does is explain just how Roger ended up on the wrong side of the noose. We get to find out just why he ended up being confused for a Regulator, and it’s no wonder he has some bad memories about Buck in later books.

The chapter foreshadows a lot without you realizing it. I’ll get to that when it comes to the foreshadowing section.

It wasn’t a chapter used for the series, though. While Outlander Season 5 did include Roger being hanged, we didn’t see that happen. We didn’t get to know how he was confused as a Regulator, especially as one of the minor leaders of the Regulation. We did eventually see the hanging, which was written in a different way to the books, and I’ll get to why I think that was in the adaptation section.

I didn’t mind the show skipping over this. I’ll explain why also in the adaptation section of the post.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 68.
