Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Roger bound and gagged. He manages to get the gag out, but he remains bound. Buck MacKenzie has done this, and Roger isn’t sure what Buck will do with him next.

It doesn’t matter. One of the Regulators comes up against him. This is the black-bearded man who Roger saw a few chapters ago after talking to Hermon Husband. “Black-beard” shares that Roger said something to Husband and that led to the failure at the battle. Was it the reason for the failure? Black-beard needs to blame someone, so it makes sense to blame Roger.

Buck and Black-beard want to kill Roger, but Morag suggests that they keep him alive. She still feels like she owes him a debt, and so should Buck. Roger saved Morag and Jemmy’s life on the ship. Doesn’t that count for something?

There’s a sense that it does. Buck agrees not to kill Roger by his own hands. However, that doesn’t mean he’s just going to let Roger go. Tryon and his men are looking for straggling Regulators, and this is the perfect way to dispose of Roger without breaking his promise to Morag.

We’re left with a sense that Roger’s life is most definitely in danger.
