Roger is a prisoner of the Regulators in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 66

We get back to Roger’s predicament in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 66. Things aren’t looking good for the MacKenzie.

It turns out he’s now a prisoner. Technically, he’s a prisoner of Buck MacKenzie, but then the guy from a few chapters ago turns up, and really, he becomes a prisoner of the Regulators. Everyone needs to figure out what to do with him.

There’s a little bit of hope for a few minutes. Morag turns up and she wants to make sure the man who saved her life and her Jemmy’s life is safe. For a second, it looks like Buck is going to listen to her, but he’s a MacKenzie through and through. Remember who his biological parents are.

However, it’s soon clear that this isn’t going to end well for Roger. It’s not foreshadowing in the strictest of sense. Instead, there’s a lot of plot development in this chapter, leading us to what’s to come for Roger’s story. We need this part to understand why he’s found as he is by Jamie, Claire, and Brianna.

The chapter wasn’t used for the series. While Roger’s storyline was (because there’s no way to avoid that), the chapter itself was skipped over. This didn’t surprise me. I’ll get to why the show’s storyline worked great for me, and why I didn’t feel like this chapter was necessarily needed for the story.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 66.
