Jamie is in the middle of the Battle of Alamance in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 65

It’s time for battle, and Jamie is in the thick of it in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 65. We know the battle doesn’t last long, but there is one thing on Jamie’s mind throughout.

It’s all about Roger. He needs to make sure that Roger isn’t killed. The problem is Roger is on the other side of enemy lines, never returning after Jamie sent him to speak to Herman Husband. Claire and Brianna will blame Jamie if Roger doesn’t make it back, and Jamie knows he will also blame himself.

However, his thoughts have to remain in the battle. There are enemies coming toward him, and he needs to make sure he protects his own life. There’s even a moment where someone else has to shoot for him.

This chapter was partly used in the series, but the characters we changed. Instead of coming up on a guy that Jamie recognizes but doesn’t know all that well, he comes up across Murtagh in Outlander Season 5. I’ll get to my thoughts about this change in the adaptation, but if you’ve read my previous posts about Murtagh, you’ll know I loved his involvement in the fourth and fifth seasons of the series.

There is a sense of foreshadowing in this chapter. I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 65.
