Roger meets with Herman Husband in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 62

It’s time to find out what Roger is up to on Outlander Book 5, Chapter 62. He meets with Herman Husband but is it enough to prevent bloodshed?

Roger is in enemy territory. There’s a sense of tension throughout as he walks though the camps. He knows that if he’s caught as one of the militia, he could be killed. However, we also get a sense of what’s to come. It’s clear from Roger’s walk through the camp that the Regulators aren’t really all that ready for battle.

Now Roger needs to prevent bloodshed all the more. First, he needs to find Husband. Second, he needs to get Husband to believe him.

The chapter was partly used for the series. Roger did enter enemy territory to try to prevent the battle. It wasn’t to meet with Husband, though. Instead, he went to meet with Murtagh, developing the story in a way that worked for the TV series. I’ll get into my thoughts about that in the adaptation section.

As for foreshadowing, there is a little. It’s clear there’s a threat against him, but it’s not heading out to meet with Husband. It’s going to be getting back to his own side of the river.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 62.
