Just the Outlander chapter

Claire wakes the next morning without Jamie by her side. He’s already gone off to speak to the Council of War, but the men at the camp offer her tea (or coffee if she wants it). This is when she starts to think of the Boston Tea Party. It’s coming, but she can’t remember exactly when that will be. All she knows is she needs to drink as much tea as possible until then.

When Jamie returns, he shares that men have been dispatched to read Tryon’s letter. There is an attempt to get the Regulators to step down, but it’s clear that nobody has any belief that it will work. That’s why Jamie sent Roger out to speak to Herman Husband.

Tryon arrives, and there is a moment of lightness. Jamie wants to check how sturdy the horse is and he and his men make a noise to startle the horse. Tryon is thrown off it, which is embarrassing, but proves a point that the horse isn’t all that ready for battle.

Jamie wants to get Tryon to give Husband a chance. He wants time to get Husband into a meeting and then call off the battle. Tryon doesn’t have much hope that it will work, but he doesn’t want to kill the people in the colonies. He allows Jamie to meet with Husband and attempt some peace talks.

With that, Tryon makes it clear to get ready. The battle is almost upon them.
