We get a series of journal entries to detail the lead-up to the battle in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 59

While the majority of chapters are from a particular character’s point of view, Outlander Book 5, Chapter 59 is a series of journal entries. They all lead us to the Battle of Alamance.

It’s not 100% clear just who the entries are from. However, they mention a series of important figures from the past and detail the build-up to the Battle of Alamance. They share details of the firepower the British Army had in the battle, hinting at the things to come.

The very end of the chapter changes to a dream journal entry. This has to be from Brianna based on what we already know about her writing entries into a dream journal.

This is the bit that really foreshadows the things to come. There’s a sense of darkness to it, and not just about the mention of the cannon smoke. There’s this feeling that there are far worse things to come for Brianna and her family.

The chapter wasn’t really used in the series, though. However, it was developed in a way to help with the development of the story. I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 59.
