Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter is a short one. It starts with Claire waking in a tent. She chose to remain with Jamie on the battlefield instead of sleeping in a bed alone. I take this as a sign of something that keeps them together. They want to be close to each other. They want to have that physical connection at all times.

Claire realizes that Jamie is awake, and he’s looking at his hand; the one that was damaged by Black Jack Randall. He’s not taking stock, though.

Jamie questions Claire about whether she wonders what her life is going to be like without her parents to guide her. It’s not that they could teach her things, but that she could look at her mom and get an idea of what life will be like each year or each decade.

Jamie notes that he is now a year older than his dad was when Brian died. Now Jamie is working without some sort of road map. He knew some of what to expect in his 30s and 40s, but not now that he’s turned 50. Claire does understand this.

However, Jamie does note that physically, he’s all in working order. That’s a plus point.
