Claire, Jamie, and Roger get some answers from Philip Wylie in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 54

It’s time to get some answers from Philip Wylie in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 54. They’re not the answers everyone wants, though.

A lot of assumptions have been made up to this point in the book. It’s easy to believe that Wylie and Bonnet have a connection. This is a chapter where a lot of assumptions start to be broken down.

Well, that is they seem to be broken down. It does depend on who you want to believe. This is all told from Claire’s perspective, and we only really get her thoughts on the matter. We have to believe what she’s hearing and experiencing.

The chapter has a little plot development rather than foreshadowing. Some of the focus moves onto what Claire found in Betty’s abdomen, which is important for wrapping up her murder.

It shouldn’t be surprising to hear that the chapter wasn’t used in the series. We didn’t have Betty’s murder, and we didn’t get the story of the Frenchman’s gold. There was no need for Jamie and Claire to see Wylie after initially telling him where to go in the stables. So, there was no need to include any of this chapter in the series.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 54.
