Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

Most of the foreshadowing is in the way the doctor treats Claire. He looks at her with suspicion, cautious about her medical ways. This isn’t the first time a male doctor has watched Claire with suspicion and it won’t be the last time.

This is going to come up in the future. We’ll see it turn into something dangerous for Claire, and these mentions here and there of suspicion are just a reminder that this is coming up.

Another bit of foreshadowing is Claire’s thoughts about Jamie getting revenge. His honor has been offended and he is a man of his time when it comes to this. There is a small storyline involving Wylie coming up soon.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used in the TV series, which isn’t all that surprising. With so little time on Outlander Season 5, the series had to cut out some of the less necessary storylines. Everything involving Betty was one of those storylines. It was great for drama in the book but time-consuming for the show with little reward for the overall storyline.

That’s why I didn’t mind the storyline being avoided. There’s simply no need for the extra drama, especially when it doesn’t really connect to the main storyline

TV writing works differently to book writing. There are the issues of potentially not getting guest stars back for the next season, and rather than risk that TV show writers need to plan their storylines out. That meant pulling storylines from the sixth book forward just in case, and I’d rather than storylines wrapped fully and skip unnecessary storylines than take the risk for the actors to not be available later.
