Brianna and Jamie run into a problem in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 42

We move onto Brianna’s time at Jocasta’s wedding in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 42. She ends up running into her father and they face a problem together.

This chapter starts the big mystery of the book. Every book has some sort of murder or crime to solve, and this is the start of it all for The Fiery Cross. It’s all about Betty, the slave Brianna and Jamie come across. At first, it looks like Betty is just drunk, but it ends up being clear that she’s been drugged.

Before that, we see Brianna spend some time with Jocasta. I love that we get to see this. Brianna and Jocasta got to know each other well when Bree remained at River Run during her pregnancy. It would make sense they’d have a close(ish) bond now.

The chapter wasn’t used for the TV series, though. Brianna didn’t head to Jocasta’s wedding, opting to stay at Fraser’s Ridge with Roger. I’ll get to my thoughts about this change, including why I think it happened and why I liked that it happened.

One thing this chapter is full of is foreshadowing. There’s plenty to take from it, whether it’s a little more about Jocasta or just how Wylie is connected to a certain pirate.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 42.
