Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t much in the way of foreshadowing. This chapter is all about the drama at the wedding. There is more to come, but Duncan’s secret threatens to cause a lot of problems. It’s not something he thought would be a problem at first but then realized that it could be because Jocasta is a woman who would like to be intimate.

This storyline will continue for the next few chapters at the wedding. After all, Jocasta needs to have a say in all this.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter itself wasn’t used in the series. We didn’t get to meet Duncan during Outlander Season 3, and he didn’t become an important figure throughout the later seasons. In fact, he was only mentioned in the Season 5 premiere and then seen episodes later at the wedding.

I didn’t mind Duncan not being a big part of the series. There just wasn’t enough time to adapt every single element of The Fiery Cross or the other books. No book-to-screen adaptation can include everything!

Some characters are left out because of other characters, and in Duncan’s case, the focus was on giving Murtagh and Jocasta a beautiful but bittersweet storyline. I’ll admit that I’m one of those who adored Murtagh’s inclusion in Seasons 4 and 5, which is why I didn’t mind the show missing out on this all that much.
