Emmys 2021: Outlander wasn’t snubbed for nominations
It’s become extremely common to see. Outlander was snubbed once again at the Emmys. However, that wasn’t the case this time.
When it comes to the Emmys, we’re kind of used to being disappointed. Every single year, we find out that our favorite show has been snubbed. The actors have also been snubbed time and time again. However, the show has gained some of the creative Emmys nominations in the past.
That being said, this isn’t one of those times when Outlander has been snubbed. It’s easy to think that yet again the awarding body hasn’t overlooked the series.
What does that mean? Did the show get nominations after all? No it didn’t, but here is why it wasn’t a snub.
Outlander wasn’t eligible for the Emmys 2021 nominations
There is a time period when shows need to air new episodes to be in contention for the Emmys. For the 2021 nominations, it was between June 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021.
The last new episode of Outlander aired on May 10, 2020. This was just outside the time frame to be able to be considered for an Emmy. It’s why STARZ didn’t even put the show forward for Emmy considerations.
It was snubbed during the previous Emmys.
Eligibility for the 2022 Emmys
The good news is that the show will be eligible for the 2022 Emmys. The new season is set to arrive in early 2022. That is in the eligibility period of June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022.
Had the show been able to film when planned, we’d have likely seen new episodes sometime within this year’s eligibility period. We can blame that on the pandemic.
Of course, we’re all likely expecting the show not to get the nominations that it tends to deserve. There’s always a chance one year that it will get recognition in the main awards, though. Just look at Schitt’s Creek, which didn’t get Golden Globe recognition until its final season.
