Claire and Jamie are at Jocasta and Duncan’s wedding in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 39

We end this week with the first chapter in Part Five of Outlander Book 5. We jump forward to Jocasta and Duncan’s wedding, but naturally, the day isn’t focused on them.

This is Outlander. There is always something going on at a wedding. It just can’t possibly purely be about the big day. For Roger and Brianna, it was all about the trouble with the priest and the world’s longest day! Jocasta and Duncan were supposed to get married then, but in the end, they didn’t because of the change of minister.

Now it’s time for them to finally tie the knot, but the day is focused on meeting a new redcoat. This redcoat is in town for the wedding, but he also wants to talk to Jamie about something. What could it be? We find out about that at the end of the chapter.

The chapter wasn’t used all that much for the series, and that’s not all too surprising. Instead of introducing a new redcoat, we got to see Lord John Grey again. The focus was also on the Philip Wylie story in the show rather than too much focus on Bonnet, and I’ll get to why that probably was and whether it worked in the adaptation section.

As for the foreshadowing, it really is all about Wylie and Bonnet. I’ll share what I spotted in the foreshadowing section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 39.
