Brianna and Claire find out more about Stephen Bonnet in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 37

We spend some time with just Brianna and Claire in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 37. They learn that Lord John Grey isn’t the only one looking for Bonnet for Jamie.

The chapter is focused on letters that Fergus has brought back from his trip to the town. It’s not so easy to get letters back and forth being in the backcountry. However, they manage it, working as a team with whoever is heading to the local town to be able to send and pick up letters.

One of the letters comes from Lieutenant Hayes, who has some news about Stephen Bonnet. Not only does it share more about what Bonnet is up to and who he is, but it brings up the conversation of what Jamie is doing. Brianna has to decide whether this is something she wants Jamie to do or not, although it’s not like she can stop him!

The chapter wasn’t used in the series, and that’s not all too surprising. It’s a relatively quiet moment and doesn’t allow too much in the way of bonding. Plus, the Bonnet storyline was one that we got to see play out with Bonnet rather than just being told about his escapades. For a TV show, watching the events play out is more engaging than just being told about it.

It certainly foreshadows a lot of the things to come in the sixth book of the series. We’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 37.
