Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 35 breakdown
It’s Hogmanay at Fraser’s Ridge in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 35
We get to know a little about Hogmanay celebrations in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 35. It’s a much bigger celebration than Christmas for the Scots of this time.
I love that we get this chapter. It’s a chance to keep things light, giving us a chance to see family life and to see everyone happy. There is a lot of drama and upheaval in the books, so it’s important to have moments of quiet like this.
The chapter also gives us a look at the celebrations and what they meant to the people of the time. Christmas was observed religiously, but Hogmanay was a big thing for everyone with superstitions that Claire, Brianna, and Roger were able to get involved in.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the TV show can always include it. In this case, the TV show didn’t have the chance to include Hogmanay celebrations, but some of the chapter was used. We did get to see a bit of the fun.
I don’t feel like there was too much foreshadowing. I feel like this chapter was just the calm before the storm, something light before the darkness to come with the Battle of Alamance.
Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 35.
