Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 34 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
The main bit of foreshadowing is in the mention of mold. Claire is trying to make penicillin to make the Ridge safer for everyone, especially for her family. And it’s not going to stop there. Claire will do more to try to bring modern medicine to the Ridge. It’s important for her to keep everyone safe.
There’s also a little foreshadowing of things to come for Claire in future books. She is viewed by many as a witch, viewed with fear by some people. She thinks about the witch trial at Cranesmuir during this chapter, and there is a threat of a witch trial coming up in the future.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
We didn’t get to know much about Mrs. Bug in Outlander Season 5. I know she has a big role in an upcoming storyline, but I wonder if the show is going to keep her role to a minimum. The storyline can still play out but without some of the details. After all, there’s not been much of a focus on the gold in the series in the way that the books have added it in now and then.
If the Bugs aren’t going to be used in the same way in the series, there’s not really a need to develop the characters as much in the show. This allows for the time to be focused on other characters that do need more development.
Of course, I won’t agree with this if the Bugs end up being used more in Outlander Seasons 6 and 7. I’ll be disappointed by the lack of development. It all depends on what the show is going to do.
