It’s common for Sassenachs around the world to worry about how long Outlander will continue. Please stop worrying about the actors’ other projects.
All TV shows have an expiry date. We know this. For some, that expiry date is after one or two seasons, while others can go on for 15 to 20 seasons (or more if you look at the Law and Order franchise!).
It’s perfectly normal to start worrying about the longevity of your favorite show after around the fourth or fifth season. After all, most streaming platforms don’t let their shows get past this point.
Most of the shows you see on Netflix or Amazon are canceled before they hit the fourth or fifth season. Those that have six seasons are the ones that were saved from other networks, such as The Expanse and Lucifer. Yes, there are some exceptions to the norm, but not many.
So, worrying about the future of Outlander is normal. However, it is one of the strongest shows on STARZ in terms of views. Don’t worry too much when you see the stars get new projects.
Filming happens in between Outlander filming
Sam Heughan has recently landed another movie role, while Caitriona Balfe is reportedly starring in a new Pride and Prejudice series on Netflix. The two stars have had other roles over the years, including Sam being in Bloodshot and Caitriona being in Ford vs. Ferrari.
It’s important to note that the filming of projects happens in between Outlander filming. For the two lead actors, the TV series is the most important thing. They’re more than the leads of this show; they’re not producers on the show.
Yes, there are some actors who have had schedule conflicts. These are actors who were guest stars on the show, including Steven Cree and Laura Donnelly. Conflicts aren’t going to happen for Balfe and Heughan because of the way contracts are set up.
Both Heughan and Balfe have routinely said that they are in Outlander until the end, whether that’s if STARZ decides to cancel it or the show comes to a natural end.
It’s time to stop panicking just because the stars have other projects. Outlander will always come first.
