Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 33 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
There isn’t much in the way of foreshadowing. I think the main focus is going to be how Christmas isn’t that big of a deal for Jamie. Roger forgetting about it could have been linked to many of the Scots he was around not mentioning it that much. After all, it was all about Hogmanay in Scotland at that time rather than Christmas.
For the most part, this chapter just offered us a look at how Brianna and Roger get along. They are still figuring each other out, but they’re dealing with each other’s emotions relatively well.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The chapter wasn’t used in Outlander Season 5. That’s not surprising since we didn’t see just how much Brianna did while remaining at Fraser’s Ridge. We didn’t see her as the head of the household while Jamie was away.
It is a flaw in the show. While I don’t mind that this particular chapter was missing, I did miss seeing Brianna as this capable young woman. It was something I feared the show would do with the promotion for her character. The series focused so much on Brianna being a mother and a survivor of Bonnet’s attack that it overlooked everything else that she could do up until Jamie being bitten by the snake.
However, I will admit skipping this particular chapter made sense just because of how much was missing from Bree’s time at the Ridge.
