Sam Heughan’s movie career continues to grow. He’s joined the cast of Everest with Ewan McGregor and Mark Strong. Here’s everything we know so far.

It’s no secret that Sam Heughan is focusing on a movie career outside of Outlander. He’s had leading and supporting roles in various films, including the latest SAS: Red Notice. Now he’s landed a role opposite Ewan McGregor and Mark Strong.

He’ll star in Everest. The movie is inspired by Paths of Glory by Jeffrey Archer. Set in 1921, it focuses on McGregor’s George Mallory who is picked to scale Mount Everest. This was at a time the mountain was considered unconquerable, and Strong’s Arthur Hinks sets an impossible mission as the British Empire starts to fade.

Sam Heughan will play George Finch, an Australian who is also on a mission to conquer the mountain. However, it soon turns out that the mission up Mount Everest is nothing to do with patriotism but all about a test of self.

The story is based on a true story. Nobody knows what happened to Mallory on his third mission up the mountain. We’ll never know if he made it to the top or not.

When will Sam Heughan film Everest?

According to Deadline, filming of Everest will begin in January 2022. Filming will take place in the UK and Italy.

What does this mean for Outlander Season 7? We know the plans are to film in the new year when there’s a chance that some of the filming protocols can be relaxed. It’s no secret that Outlander isn’t a COVID-friendly show, and the producers want to make things a little easier because of how long it’s taking to film with the protocols in place.

With Everest filming in January 2022, it could mean that filming Outlander Season 7 isn’t set to start until around April or May 2022. This still allows for a 2023 premiere date.
