Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t much in the way of traditional foreshadowing in this chapter. Instead, it’s all about moving the plot for Brownsville forward. There is going to be a conversation between Jamie and Claire about keeping the baby, though. Do they want to raise this child? It’s an important conversation to have.

There’s also the plot involving Morton and Alicia to come up. Jamie understands the way the Browns are thinking, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to let the Browns string up Morton.

The foreshadowing is within the Mongol spot. Could the baby being Black end up affecting anything for her when it comes to Brownsville? Jamie needs to explain how the dowry and the baby’s inheritance works.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter was partly used in Outlander Season 5. Fanny didn’t give birth in secret. Instead, Claire helped to deliver the baby, and it was afterward that Fanny ran off in the middle of the night. This did make a bit more sense, especially since they weren’t on the road, Jamie wasn’t ill (and we all know how sleep overpowers when ill), and Claire wasn’t overly tired.

Fanny didn’t just leave the baby, either. She also left the bond papers for the Beardsley twins. This was an important part of the show storyline to make sure nobody could come after Josiah and Keziah. That was the reason Jamie had turned up to the homestead in the first place.

Keeping everything at the homestead would have been important for the show. As mentioned a couple of chapters ago, putting the characters on the road would have meant battling lighting issues and the elements. Keeping things within a homestead would have been much easier to handle, keeping the costs and time down. It’s a change that didn’t affect too much and made a lot of sense for filming.

The conversation at Brownsville was pretty much the same. There was no need to change this.
