Just the Outlander chapter

Roger and the men turn up to Brownsville. Fergus and the other men stop, which makes Roger look at what they’re seeing. Jamie didn’t want anyone riding into Brownsville at night, and now Roger gets an understanding as to why. People in the backcountry aren’t the most trustworthy when a group of strangers turns up.

It turns out the guns aren’t for all the men, though. One of the men inside calls out for Morton.

There is a shot fired, which gives Roger time to burst into the house and tackle one of the men with a gun. Fergus is able to then get in with his own pistol and stop the other man from shooting. The situation is diffused enough to find out that these two men are Richard and Lionel Brown. The women in the house are Richard’s wife, sister, and daughter.

Roger doesn’t really know what to do at this point. The Brown men clearly don’t trust Roger and the others, and they’re not just going to agree to join the militia. So, he needs to figure something else out.

He decides to ask them for food and ale while he gets the men to bring a cask of whiskey. The best way to deal with the Morton (who has run into the woods) issue is to talk over food and drink.

And that’s where we leave them for now. There’s clearly more to come.
