Roger has to figure out how to handle the Brown men in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 28

We head to Brownsville and catch up with Roger and Fergus in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 28. This is a chapter that received a fair bit of deviation in the show, but mostly due to the development of Roger’s character up to this point.

The chapter sees Roger act on instinct. The men realize there are two people in Brownsville with guns trained on them. However, it turns out they’re after one particular man within the group, someone who we haven’t even really met up to this point.

Roger needs to protect his men. He has to step up as a leader, and he does that by charging at those with the guns. Fortunately, it all works out!

This chapter did see some deviation in the series. Roger’s character didn’t get some development in the show that the book offered so the deviation made a lot of sense for me. I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

There isn’t that much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. Instead, it starts the plot of a small side story. The most important part of the chapter is the way Roger handles himself.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 28.
