Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

We don’t get to find out the full story of the Beardsley twins. All we know right now is that there are twins rather than just Josiah. Josiah has said that he has business to take care of, and this is clearly linked to that business.

Eventually, we do get to know more. Jamie has found out more when he caught up with Josiah. It’s clear of that since he removed the branding from Josiah’s thumb. Jamie is offering Josiah his protection and the agreement for Josiah to come to the Ridge still stands.

I think there is also the foreshadowing of the Battle of Alamance to come. Roger is scared. There’s a chance that he might not make it back alive, and we know the trauma that he is going to face.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

This chapter was used for Outlander Season 5. It had to be considering how important the ending of the chapter is.

What I loved is that we got the campfire moment. There was a chance to see the men jesting together. We had a chance to see Roger being included with the group, even though sometimes he feels like an outsider. There was a chance to see that comradery being built up, which was always going to be important for the militia. In a way, this part of the chapter reminded me a bit of some events in Dragonfly in Amber, so I’m really glad the show found a way to include it.

Of course, we also to meet the Beardsley twins. The series handled the big reveal a little differently, and this would have been linked to time. There wasn’t the time for the slower reveal that the book has the liberty of. Plus, we don’t just get the show from individual points of view. We see multiple viewpoints happen at the same time.

I liked how the show handled it. There wasn’t the need to draw it all out. We just needed the quick reveal of Keziah Beardsley, their full backstory, and the removal of the brand to get onto the next part of the story—Claire and Jamie getting to the Beardsley homestead.
