Josiah Beardsley returns in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 26

The militia heads out in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 26. At first, it starts off relatively light, and then a character returns.

This chapter starts off as a talk of war. Roger is scared, and Claire admits that Jamie is scared too. However, as an officer, Jamie can’t admit to that and he needs to deal with it in his own way. He needs to lead and encourage the others not to be scared, but the others aren’t trained to be soldiers and Jamie doesn’t have a lot of time to be able to do that.

The chapter doesn’t remain focused on that for too long. It moves onto someone watching the camp. Josiah Beardsley ends up returning, and he is definitely not alone.

This chapter sets up so many of the following chapters. There’s a big story behind the Beardsley twins, and this is just a start of all that. While it’s not foreshadowing and more of a plot development, I will discuss this in the foreshadowing section.

As for the adaptation, a lot of this chapter was used. I don’t remember a big focus on fear and war, but there were other lighter moments in the chapter used, and yes, we did get to see the Beardsley twins show up.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 26.
