Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t that much in the way of foreshadowing in the chapter. I think the only real foreshadowing is in Claire’s thought about someone needing medical help while she’s away. It’s clear she is going to need an apprentice at some point.

In the series, Marsali became that apprentice at first. It’s clear the series is going to end up following the book’s storyline with a certain Christie becoming Claire’s apprentice. There’s a lot of drama to come in both the book and show!

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used for the series. There was no real need to include this in the build-up in Outlander Season 5. We got the weight of it through various conversations, and we’d seen Claire get ready for things like this in earlier seasons.

The focus was put on the goodbyes at the Ridge instead.

I didn’t mind the chapter not being used. The inclusion of the letter in the book was great, but it didn’t add too much extra information to what we already knew, and for a TV show, time is short so keeping the redundant information out is important. For a TV show, this is a redundant chapter with a lot internalized, so it made sense to put the focus where it needed to be.
