Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t too much in the way of foreshadowing in this chapter. It sets up the next chapter of Jamie calling on the men, but the actual storyline doesn’t foreshadow too much after that.

The only foreshadowing that I could see is the Dutch family. It may not be the same family, but eventually, a Dutch family does come into the story. It’s a horrific moment for Jamie and Roger, as they come across a burned-down home.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter wasn’t used all that much for the series. We did get Brianna’s horrified look at the fiery cross, but it didn’t quite have the same effect as in the books. I don’t remember her explaining her view of fiery crosses on TV. It was disappointing not to include that, but there probably wouldn’t have been much time.

The fiery cross was used in the first episode of Outlander Season 5, rather than partway through the season. The focus for the premiere was a mixture of Bree and Roger’s wedding day and then Jamie calling on the men to fight by his side. It was an important moment that couldn’t be missed; more important than Roger explaining the full history of the fiery cross.
