Roger gets his eyes tested in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 21

Roger finds out about his vision in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 21. I’ll admit it’s a chapter that I forgot about until I got to it! I thought it was just part of the show.

This chapter is from Claire’s point of view, despite it being about Roger’s eyes. She’s testing them to see how well he can see, and Roger is only doing it because Brianna has asked him to. This has come up from the attempt to shoot the turkeys in the previous chapter.

Claire spends a little time thinking about Geillis. And the chapter eventually leads to Roger thinking about Jemmy and genetic conditions.

It’s a chapter that was partly used for the TV series. However, the TV series didn’t include Claire’s diagnosis for Roger. Instead, there’s nothing wrong with his eyes, and the moment in the show is used to include a little of the internalization in the previous chapter. I didn’t mind this change, and in fact, I did forget about the book chapter! So, I’ll definitely get to that in the adaptation breakdown.

Does it include any foreshadowing? There isn’t too much in there except for toward the end, and it’s more of an ongoing plot point than foreshadowing.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 21.
