The Frasers get an unexpected visitor at the Ridge in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 19

An unexpected visitor turns up at Fraser’s Ridge in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 19. It’s in this chapter that we definitely know things are going to get worse in the Colonies before they get better.

The chapter sees life get back to normal after the Gathering. It’s a chance for the family to relax at home, but they’re not going to get much of a chance to relax. There are tensions throughout the colony, and it’s clear that Governor Tryon isn’t going to stand for it.

Herman Husband comes to the Ridge with some news for the Frasers. We get this chance to see how this wasn’t a war of two unknown sides. There were friends who would find themselves on the opposite side of coming battles.

He is a character from real life, the real leader of the Regulators. However, the show decided not to use him. He was mentioned once, but he wasn’t included in the main storylines surrounding the Regulators. I’ll get to why I think that was and why I wasn’t all too disappointed by it when I get to the adaptation section.

There is certainly some foreshadowing of things to come though. Actually, the more I think about it, this chapter is making the plot for the next few chapters clear. There’s a war coming and the Frasers and MacKenzies will be stuck in the middle of it.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 19.
