Just the Outlander chapter

We start with the wedding feast. While Jocasta didn’t get married, she still provided a wedding feast. It’s clear that she does approve of this marriage, whether she had her doubts about Roger or not. While she’s sly and cunning like a MacKenzie, she does still have that loving streak so she’ll do what she can to make her family happy.

During the feast, Jamie and Roger lead everyone down the path. They start calling the clans, but this is more than that.

Jamie starts with remembering those who lost their lives, whether during Culloden or in the aftermath of it. Then he celebrates all those who are still there, the ones who managed to survive everything the Crown threw at them. He also takes time to remember the women in the men’s lives, the ones who have stood by them and made them who they are.

Now it’s time for gathering the men from the Ridge. Jamie starts with Roger, calling him son of the house. Then he works through various other men, including Josiah Beardsley.

I didn’t notice Fergus being called. At first, I thought it might be because Fergus wouldn’t be fighting in the militia and this is what that call could be for. But Josiah isn’t going to fight in the militia either, so that didn’t make sense.

Jamie says something in Gaelic that Claire doesn’t fully understand. Roger does. It was an oath to protect everyone. However, this was more than just any oath that Jamie has made before. This is the biggest promise he can ever make to the men of the Ridge.
