Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 9 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
It is clear that the Frasers and MacKenzies will continue to find themselves caught up in this Regulators business. Claire had never heard of the Regulators, but she’s about to find out plenty about them. Jamie and Roger are going to find themselves opposite some people they know.
This chapter doesn’t offer too much foreshadowing, but it’s setting up the plot for the Battle of Alamance to happen. This is going to be a difficult time for all.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The Gathering wasn’t included in Outlander Season 5, but the writers did manage to include part of this chapter. It was important to see Roger as captain of the militia, and that meant finding men to join the militia. Jamie tasked Roger with going to Brownsville, which led to Roger coming across the Findlay family.
Joan was everything I expected in the show. She was protective of her sons, but she also knew the way of the world. Roger made his promise and Joan sent her sons with him.
We needed to see this. Not only was it important for Roger, but it was important for the building of the militia. The book made a point that going from homestead to homestead would be time-consuming, and that’s exactly what we saw with the series as Roger made his way to Brownsville.
