Outlander Book Club: The Fiery Cross Chapter 8 breakdown
Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
It’s clear that the Bugs are going to have bigger roles at some point in the story. They have quickly shared their story, and they know what happened to the MacKenzies because they pay attention to things being said on the ships on the way over. This is a couple looking out for themselves.
We know they do get bigger roles as the stories continue. At first, they seem to be kindly and helpful. However, they will turn against people if they need to, even those they seem to like.
Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter
The Outlander TV series hasn’t made the Bugs big characters. We haven’t got to know who they are or how they’ve come to the Colonies yet. Instead, they are just there as people working at the Ridge to help with the Frasers and MacKenzies.
I do wonder if the show is going to bother with the Bugs’ overall storyline. For the sake of time, it makes sense just to keep the Bugs as side characters. Their involvement with the gold could bloat the story for the TV series. There is already so much going on in A Breath of Snow and Ashes that would need to be used for Outlander Season 6.
In fact, their story goes into An Echo to the Bone. We’ve seen that the show isn’t afraid to bring storylines forward or even push some of them to later. If the show is going to use the Bugs in the way the books do, we may see it saved for Season 7.
I don’t mind if their storyline is skipped over, though. As I said, there is a lot that happens in A Breath of Snow and Ashes that will need to be used for Outlander Season 6. I wouldn’t want too much going on as it leads to bloated storylines and takes the attention away from some of the more important storylines in the series.
