Roger starts to worry about Jamie’s thoughts of him in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 8

We’re back to Roger in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 8, where we also get to meet the Bugs. This meeting sets off a few worries for Roger, which are over by the end of the chapter.

Duncan finds Roger during the chapter, leading to the introduction of the Bugs. We never really got to know them in the TV series, potentially because their full storyline isn’t going to be included due to the time constraints available.

However, the Bugs have a big storyline during A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and it’s clear from their introduction that that is going to be the case. They quickly share some of their story within this chapter, with their personalities immediately coming through. And it’s easy to see why people view them as a kindly, old couple.

Yet, it sets off some alarm bells for Roger. It’s not that he worries about the Bugs, but that he feels inadequate. He realizes that he assumed something based on the time period and who he is to Jamie, and now he realizes that the assumption is wrong.

One thing is clear. There is some foreshadowing in this chapter. However, the foreshadowing is only for the book, and it doesn’t look like the storylines are going to be used in the TV series. Honestly, I’m okay with that, and I’ll explain why in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 8.
