Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

There isn’t that much foreshadowing in the chapter until the very end. It’s clear that there is going to be a war. We already know that just based on history, but the plot is moving forward with this, making it clear that Jamie is going to be a part of it.

Right now, we get that foreshadowing that Jamie is going to have to fight against some of his friends. There are Regulators among the people at the Gathering, even if they don’t formally view themselves as that right now. Jamie will have to make a choice. In fact, they will all need to eventually make a choice.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The part of the chapter used in the show was the letter. Jamie received it at the end of Outlander Season 4, pushing us into the season break with that knowledge a war is coming. There was also a call to form a militia during Brianna and Roger’s wedding in the Outlander Season 5 premiere.

At first, the focus was on Murtagh. It was personal for Jamie, even if Tryon didn’t realize it. Jamie was told that Murtagh was wanted to answer for his crimes, and it was clear the punishment would be death.

This made sense to me. As a fan of TV shows, the end of seasons work well with some sort of cliffhanger. Something is needed to draw people in for the new season. That’s what happened here. Those who hadn’t read the books had a lot of questions. Those who had read the books would question what could happen to Murtagh because there was no source material for that.

The request for the militia leads to Jamie calling on everyone and lighting the fiery cross. It combines a couple of storylines from the fifth book, which was necessary in terms of time.
