Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

The foreshadowing in this chapter is certainly connected to Bonnet. It’s clear that Stephen Bonnet isn’t done with Brianna, and it’s all going to come back to her telling him about Jemmy. He believes that the child is his own, and it’s going to lead to trouble.

During A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Bonnet ends up abducting Brianna. He wants them to be a family of sorts, his chance to raise Jemmy. It all leads to the end of Bonnet.

Adapting The Fiery Cross chapter

The chapter itself wasn’t used in Outlander Season 5, but there was a conversation that came up. Roger eventually finds out that Brianna went to see Bonnet. However, Bree doesn’t tell him outright that she went. It’s only when Roger finds the gem that Bonnet gave Brianna that he realizes the truth.

Roger is hurt that Bree would go see Bonnet. He’s also hurt at the idea that Jemmy may not be his own child, and that Brianna also considers that. However, he has made his choice—he chose to be with Brianna and Jemmy.

There wasn’t the need for the conversation about not telling Jemmy the truth about Bonnet. Outlander changed the story slightly by pulling Bonnet’s death forward to Season 5. It arguably negates the worry that Jemmy could find out that Roger may not be his biological father.

There is time for another conversation, though. There are mentions of Roger having a child of his own with Brianna. She is willing to give him that child despite the risks. We haven’t had a mention of another child just yet on the show, but that could come soon.
