Brianna wants to talk to Claire about contraception in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 3

The lead-up to Brianna and Roger’s wedding continues in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 3. As there is a large Gathering, it means Claire has to get to work as a doctor. There are plenty of people who need treating, some of whom wouldn’t have seen a doctor in many years.

At the same time, we get a moment between Brianna and Claire. Bree has a few questions about contraception, but she realizes there could be other problems after everything that happened with Bonnet. It’s a very real and understandable fear, but one that only comes up because of a particular topic before the book started.

I’ll admit that I like this chapter. While we do get the world’s longest day at the start of The Fiery Cross, I’ve always appreciated seeing Claire in her element. She’s comfortable treating people, even if she can sometimes act high and mighty (not as much of a problem in the books as it is in the TV show).

However, this chapter wasn’t used in the TV series, which isn’t all too surprising. There was something later that worked well enough to prevent the need for this particular chapter. It’s all about Dr. Rawlings, and I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

What about foreshadowing, though? I definitely think this chapter has foreshadowing of things to come.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 3.
