The morning continues in Outlander Book 5, Chapter 2, with Claire finally getting some breakfast at the end!

The world’s longest day continues. There’s even a comment about it during Outlander Book 5, Chapter 2, making it clear that there was still plenty to come during the lead-up to Brianna and Roger’s wedding.

Claire at least finally gets some breakfast and coffee during the chapter. It takes some time, though, as there’s still a lot to discuss. Part of that is the fact that the soldiers are starting to leave the colonies. In fact, Archie Hayes’s regiment is the last one left, and they’re returning to Scotland very soon and will be disbanded.

This is despite Hillsborough happening. It’s clear from this point that Archie doesn’t really care about getting answers since he’s going home soon anyway.

There is another part of the chapter that connects to Hillsborough. We find out about a few people involved, including why they got involved. More specifically, we find out why one person got involved.

While there is a little foreshadowing in the chapter, this is more about setting the stage for the upcoming Battle of Alamance. It’s setting the tone to help us understand why the Regulators stood up against those in power.

Of course, the chapter wasn’t used for the TV series. Most of the Gathering wasn’t used in the Outlander TV series due to time constraints. Instead, the Regulators’ story was brought in through Murtagh’s involvement and already included during Season 4. I’ll get into why it worked for me in the adaptation breakdown.

Let’s dive into The Fiery Cross Chapter 2.
