Outlander Season 2, Episode 3 made me need more about Master Raymond

Sometimes the side characters are the most intriguing of the lot. That was certainly the case for Master Raymond on Outlander Season 2, Episode 3.

There was a lot going on in Outlander Season 2, Episode 3. We had Jamie find Fergus, the interception of messages, and the start of the Duke of Sandringham’s involvement in the Jacobite rebellion.

We also got to see Master Raymond again. Sometimes, I find the supporting characters the most intriguing, and that was certainly the case for Master Raymond.

Please remember that I watched the show before reading the books, especially at this point. I had no idea who Master Raymond was, where he was from, or what he would end up doing. But I knew there was something special about him. Since then, I’ve read the books and know more.

Giving us a hint of more power on Outlander Season 2, Episode 3

It wouldn’t be until the middle of the season that we’d see Master Raymond’s abilities, but Outlander Season 2, Episode 3 offered us a hint of his capabilities. He had already been able to see Claire’s blue aura, and that meant something to him. He clearly knew more about Claire than he was letting on.

During this episode, Raymond shared a little about poisons. His return was small, but it was intriguing. Why would he go into the details of poisons and how to mimic them?

It told me a great deal about him. He was protecting Claire for some reason, getting her ready for things to come. I don’t believe he knew everything or he intentionally sold a fake poison to harm Claire, but he knew that there were viable threats against her and he wanted her to protect herself.

He also led her to L’Hopital des Anges. Well, he gave her the idea to volunteer there. Again, he knew more about her. He knew her healing abilities, and he wanted her to use them.

I have always been drawn to this character. I’m looking forward to a novel about him if Diana Gabaldon does write it, but for now, I’ll watch the series and read The Space Between to get the small details about Master Raymond that we know so far.

I’d love for him to show up again in Claire’s life. There are still so many questions. But, for now, I’ll take what we have.
