Claire and Jamie get a letter from Young Ian in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 70

We pick up at the Gathering in Outlander Book 4, Chapter 70, where Claire comes across John Quincy Myers. It’s time to find out what Young Ian has been up to all this time.

JQM was shocked to find Young Ian had joined the Mohawks. He does agree to deliver a letter to the Frasers, though.

For the rest of the chapter, it’s just setting things up for The Fiery Cross. However, there is tension at the end of the chapter when a Highland regiment shows up. What could they want with this large gathering of Scots?

The chapter wasn’t used in the TV series. Many fans wondered how the show was going to adapt the Gathering, which takes up a good chunk of time at the beginning of The Fiery Cross. In the end, the show decided to skip the actual Gathering completely, making the focus on Brianna and Roger’s wedding.

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in this chapter, although most of it is just setting up the story for the start of the next book. The foreshadowing connects to the end of The Fiery Cross and into A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Let’s dive into Drums of Autumn Chapter 70.
