Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Brianna in labor. Claire is delivering the baby while Jamie helps Brianna as much as he can. Usually, men wouldn’t have been in the delivery room during this time period. This was something special, with Jamie holding up to the promise that he would be there for her when she came to deliver.

We get some comedic moments as Jamie tries to distract Brianna. There are also some beautiful bonding moments. Toward the end, Brianna starts to panic and reaches out for Jamie.

What I also love is we get Claire’s thoughts. She thinks about everything that she can save Brianna from in this time, but also everything that she can’t. She doesn’t voice any of this aloud, but there is a worry there with Brianna giving birth in a time period when so many women died from it.

Once the baby is born, there’s a chance for everyone to relax. Claire and Jamie discuss the color of the baby’s hair, which was black.

Jamie wants to believe that it means Roger is the father. However, Claire points out that it could be a recessive gene. One thing she doesn’t go into is that babies can also lose all their birth hair and it can grow back through in a completely different color (happened with both mine).

In the end, Jamie decides that knowing the father doesn’t matter. He knows who the baby’s grandsire is, and that’s what counts.
